**Follow the instructions below to successfully configure your user preferences:**

1. Log into **CrossLink 1040**.

2. Click **Utility** > **User Preferences**.

3. Update any *Login Preferences* and click **OK**.

| **Field** | **Description** |
| **Color Scheme** | Choose the color scheme you want |
| **Client Data Screen** | Choose the default Client Data screen.  
  
Each option significantly changes the layout of the Client Data screen in a tax return. We recommend using the default Client Data screen. |
| **Questionnaire** | If you are using the Questionnaire, choose the language you want to use. |
| **Client Letter** | Choose the client letter you want to print by default with each tax return. |
| **Lookup Sort By** | Select the default sort method you want to use to sort the grid on the Lookup screen. |
| **Checkbox** | **Description** |
| **Use Transcription Mode** | Select this check box to allow entry of completed (previously prepared) tax returns directly into the program.  
  
This option disables overrides and allows data entry on calculated fields. We **do not recommend** selecting this check box. |
| **Bypass City/Zip Key Tracking** | Select this check box if you don’t want the program to automatically complete the city and state information when you type a ZIP code. |
| **Bypass EIN Key Tracking** | Select this check box if you don’t want the program to automatically complete the EIN information when you either an EIN in a tax return. |
| **Ignore State ID from Employer** | Select this check box if you want the program to ignore employer state ID stored in the Employers/Payers database.  
  
Clear this check box if you want the program to automatically complete state EIN information on Forms W-2/W-2G/1099-R. |
| **Change Password Button** | Click this button to change the login password that is required when you open the program. |
